Submitting an Ethics Clearance Application / Application Dates

In line with the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research (NS) “a judgement that a human research proposal meets the requirements of (the) National Statement and is ethically acceptable must be made before research can begin and before full funding for the proposal is released" (NS p8)

Researchers should be aware that the University has one formally constituted HREC which is assisted in its deliberations by a number of Human Ethics Sub-Committees (HESCs). All requests for Human Ethics Approval must be made on the available Human Research Ethics Application Form. It is then necessary to determine the degree of risk that the proposed research poses to its participants. In determining this, the University has developed criteria to classify which of its activities are reviewable by the HREC and which can be reviewed by a HESC. In all cases, final approval is given by the HREC.
