Scheme Guidelines

Purpose

The ARC Linkage-Projects Encouragement Scheme is an internal program administered by the Board of Research. It has been introduced to encourage SUT academic staff to submit high quality applications to the ARC Linkage-Projects Program (details about the Program are available at this link).

Eligibility

Applications which have been submitted on time and are fully assessed as eligible applications by the ARC are eligible for funding under the Scheme.

Offers of funding will only be made to applications where a Swinburne-based researcher appears as first-named Chief Investigator on an ARC Linkage-Projects application, and where the application meets one of the following criteria:

  • is a successful APA(I)-only application at PhD level;
  • is an eligible application for project costs over at least two years duration;
  • is a successful application for project costs over at least two years duration.

Level of Support and Use of Funds

Up to $5,000 is available depending on the affiliation of the first named chief investigator, the type of award and whether the application is successful (see above eligibility criteria).

The Scheme will allocate funding in three categories as follows:

  • Category A: $1,000 – to the first named chief investigator of a successful APA(I)-only at the PhD level (i.e. awarded 3 years of ARC funds).
  • Category B: $2,000 – to the first named chief investigator of an application for project costs over at least two years duration
  • Category C: $3,000 – to the first named chief investigator of a successful application for project costs over at least two years duration

Scheme funds may be used for any research-related activity which encourages the research collaboration as described in the funding application. In this way, even if the Linkage application is unsuccessful, there will be some funds to develop the relationship with the organisation. Any funds remaining after one year will automatically revert to the Board of Research. Funds are not transferable to another institution. Awardees will be required to provide a brief final report on the use of the funds.

Application Process

Eligible applicants will be made an offer of an ARC Linkage-Projects Encouragement Scheme Award at the following times:

Category A: Once the results of the granting round are known in 2008
Category B: Following the close of applications
Category C: Once the results of the granting round are known in 2008

All grants will be transferred to an account in the appropriate faculty.

Number of Applications

Unrestricted, consistent with meeting ARC eligibility criteria as specified in Section 3.8 of the current Linkage-Projects Funding Rules.

Final Reporting

As stipulated in the Conditions of Award; all successful applicants are required to fill out a Final Report Proforma. Download the SUT Linkage Project Encouragement Scheme Final Report Proforma here.
