Calculating Salaries for non ARC/NHMRC Research Projects
When composing a research grant application, in most instances, it will be necessary to accurately cost the salaries of the researchers that will potentially be funded by the research grant. Please follow the steps below to cost these salaries.
Step One
Follow this link to the Human Resources wesbite and select the appropriate salary (academic or general) from the tables provided.
Step Two
Apply the selected amount to the Research Project Costing Template. To download a copy of the template follow these instructions:
- Go to the Swinburne Policies and Procedures Database
- Click on the link to the 'Finacial Services' policies and procedures
- Clink on the link to 'Project Costing Template'
- Click on 'Forms'
- Click on 'Costing Template - Research' (excel).
NOTE: This procedure only applies when costing salaries for non ARC/NHMRC projects. Different rules apply for costing salaries funded through ARC or NHMRC grants.
- When costing an ARC salary please refer to the Swinburne Research 'ARC Dictated Salary Scales Spreadsheet'.
- NHMRC salaries are referred to as 'Personel Support Packages'. When costing a 'Personel Support Package' please refer to the NHMRC website for more information.
Swinburne Research Income Levy
Please be aware that research income other than income awarded from nationally competitive grants, will incur a 15% levy. Please view the 'Administration of Infrastructure Contribution on Research - Related Income' policy for more information on this levy.
